Academic & Crew Awards for Senior Students

Earlier today, a third and final Channel Assembly for Term 3 was staged on the Senior Floor; this morning’s event – which further trialled an alternative format for promoting our consistent themes of success and belonging – was dedicated to our Year 11 and 12 students. We were again delighted to host some of the students’ parents for the occasion.
The assembly commenced with Year 12 Music student Taj Williams expertly playing a classical guitar piece for the audience. School Captains Liam Akehurst and Sophie Land then delivered an Acknowledgement of Country and confidently compered the proceedings throughout.
Miss Bambi Britten and Mrs. Michaela Webb were invited to the podium to announce the names of twenty-four Year 11 and 12 students (listed below) who had earned Academic Excellence Awards – and a Certificate of Achievement – for their outstanding Semester 1 results.
A fantastic clip from “Alter Oscillate” – last term’s incredible PLHS Dance Production – was then screened, featuring senior students Huey Hood (Year 12), Oliyena Thomas (Year 11) and Millie Speed (Local Delivery – Cummins Area School).
This was followed by nineteen students (listed below) receiving recognition and a certificate from their respective Dharna Crew Leaders – these Crew Awards were given for a variety of thoughtful reasons, all of which can be traced back to demonstrating our school values of Responsible, Respectful and Inclusive.
To celebrate their achievements, the award-winning students and their parents were treated to a morning tea in the Staff Room afterwards.
Following a pair of announcements from Ms. Tiff Evans (senior student pathways) and Mr. Shaun Thomas (2025 PLHS Yearbook), Taj concluded the assembly with another skilfully-played song.
The Channel Assembly model has received positive feedback thus far from participating students, parents and staff – we look forward to refining this concept further next term.
