Barista Course for Tailored Learning Students
PLHS is thrilled to share the news that six of our Onsite Tailored Learning students are participating in a Barista course on Friday mornings throughout Term 1. This initiative is part of the Red Cross’ Youth Development Hub, which offers Barista and Retail programs for young people aged 14 to 24.
These programs provide a pathway to build work confidence and gain real, supported work experience. They recognise the real-world skills and experiences that many young people already possess and focus on helping them identify and transfer these skills across various industries.
Since starting the course five weeks ago, we are proud to share that two of our students have already obtained casual employment at a local café. This achievement highlights the effectiveness of the program in preparing students for the workforce.
We are proud of our students for taking this step towards their future careers and look forward to seeing them thrive in this supportive environment.
~ Mr. Jack Yeoman (Tailored Learning)
* As School Promotions manager, I had the pleasure of visiting this course in process last Friday. When I arrived, our students were positively engaged in the theoretical course content, providing thoughtful responses to the problem-solving tasks presented to them. When they were offered the opportunity to demonstrate their practical skills, they leapt into action and expertly produced a range of delicious coffees. This is a wonderful initiative with significant potential for successful pathway outcomes. Thanks for my strong latte, Doddy! ~ Mr. Shaun Thomas (School Promotions)
