Success & Belonging Promoted at 7/8 Channel Assembly
A Year 7/8 Channel Assembly was staged into the PLHS Gymnasium during this morning’s long Dharna session – this event trialled an alternative method for promoting our consistent themes of success and belonging. As well as the Year 7 and Year 8 Dharna Crews in attendance, we were delighted to host some of the students’ parents, plus the Year 6 students from the Port Lincoln and Lincoln Gardens Primary Schools.
The assembly officially commenced with an Acknowledgement of Country delivered by Year 8 students Mavis Coleman, Ebony Dodd and Sophie Gray. Then, Year 7/8 Channel Assistant Principal Mr. Angus Martin presented Academic Excellence Awards to nineteen Year 7/8 students for outstanding results across their Semester 1 subjects – these students and their parents were later treated to a celebratory morning tea in the Staff Room (pictured). A further twenty Year 8 students were also publicly recognised, this time for their wonderful assistance in delivering our inaugural “Exploring Culture & Languages Day”, an event that the visiting Year 6’s enjoyed last term.
To ensure that the audience was thoroughly entertained, Year 11 Music student Summer Thorpe brilliantly performed songs before, during and after the assembly – she was wonderfully supported by Music teachers Mr. Stephen Campbell and Mrs. Helen Marks (who deserves a special mention for filling in on the drums at short notice – onya, Hels!). Finally, a clip from “Alter Oscillate” – last term’s incredible PLHS Dance Production – was also screened.
The feedback for this new format has been overwhelmingly positive thus far. We look forward to repeating the process next Wednesday with our Year 9/10 Channel, followed by the 11/12 version a week later.
