Success for Year 7’s at 5-a-Side Soccer
Congratulations to ALL of the Year 7’s who participated in Monday’s annual 5-a-side soccer round robin tournament at Tumby Bay. Thank you to Cath Crowder for driving us, supporting the teams and being an official scorer.
Our boys’ team won; it was a draw on points but they won on percentage. Well done to Year 8 student Kai Cunningham for coaching and using his soccer skills to support the boys all day. They played well as a team and should be super proud of the manner in which they represented PLHS. Oliver D played goalie for most of the games and due to his effective saves, he was an integral part of our team claiming top spot. Josh V also made an appearance as goalie as well as playing defence and attack. Ryder P, Nixon M and Balin M played all positions, but were stand outs in defence. Kaleb K, Kai L and Harrison M were cool, calm and collected as they danced their way around the midfield and into attack. Jack K and Brandyn S were forces to be reckoned with as they kicked for glory.
Year 9 Bella McEvoy coached the girls and used her goalie skills to assist the team who ultimately came second. Given that most of the girls had not played the sport before, it was amazing seeing them progress throughout the day. Shout outs to our amazing goalie Sasha who saved many goals, Lily O for finding her place as a defender and midfielder, and Lahaeyna P for running most of the matches. Nikita W was unstoppable (even when going in the wrong direction!) and was a solid team player. Aiza B started in the midfield but found her position as a forward, Willoh B was an all-rounder and ran the entire game and Elsa was so dedicated that she tumbled with the ball into the soccer goals. Lyndah J-R started in defence but quickly moved herself into midfield and ended up strong in attack, while Zaria S put her fitness to the test by playing every position. So proud of the girls, their efforts, their support for one another and how they represented PLHS throughout the day.
Well done to our participating Year 7’s; it was a great day out with the students and Cath Crowder. Thank you to Mrs. Yasmin Sampson for her behind-the-scenes work to ensure that the our students could participate in this wonderful interschool community event.
~ Mrs. Nat van Riet (Accompanying Teacher)
