Unique “Adopt-a-Barra” Scheme Back for 2024

Dear Adoptive Parents (and potential adoptive parents),
As we move through Term 2, the baby barramundi boys are growing well. We received the fingerlings at 30mm (1 gram) in size back in February – they are currently averaging 10 grams (see photo).
We are still looking for more people to join our unique Adopt-a-Barra program. Our goal is to adopt out 150 fish (we have 50 registered fish adoptions thus far); it would be “fin-tastic” if last year’s adopters were willing to get on board again in 2024.
If you choose to adopt a barramundi, our Year 11 Aquaculture class will keep your son alive by vigilantly grading the fish into sizes every two weeks (to prevent cannibalism and reduce stress), and by feeding the barra twice a day. We will process your fish at the end of the year for you to collect.
It only costs $20 to Adopt-a-Barra; you are most welcome to buy as many fish as you like. Please fill out the required details on the attached registration form. Participants in the scheme will receive progress emails and are welcome to visit the PLHS Aquaculture Centre to meet their adopted son.
Port Lincoln High School’s Year 11 Aquaculture students thank you in advance of your support.
Best fishes,
~ Mr. Chris McGown & the PLHS Aquaculture Team
