Nihongo News (Term 1 News from the Japanese Room)
Earlier this term, Year 11 Japanese students Maya Kennedy and Zoe van-Overdijk represented our school with pride, presenting information to Rotary Club of Port Lincoln members about the highlights and benefits of our Senior Languages Trip to Japan last October. Rotary kindly supported this venture by generously contributing to our fundraising efforts. A Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Robyn Rowsell on behalf of PLHS students and staff.
Japanese language students from Years 7–12 have greatly enjoyed working with Hazuki Yamashita, a voluntary Assistant Language Teacher from Osaka, Japan. Hazuki’s placement in Port Lincoln is supported by the Kobe Japan Australia Society (KJAS). She has been assisting a range of classes with language practice and cultural activities, and we are very thankful for her efforts.
Hazuki recently accompanied a group of senior students from Navigator College and their Japanese teacher, Ms. Amy Nairn, on an excursion to PLHS – this initiative allowed for Japanese students from both schools to participate in joint oral language activities. The combined group enjoyed the opportunity to interact using only Japanese and extend their communication skills.
We also continue to maintain a strong connection with our Japanese sister school, Muroto High School. Via online exchanges this term, students from both schools have shared information about their respective cultures. Tomorrow (Tuesday April 8th), we will celebrate the fourth anniversary of the signing of our sister school agreement, with both schools creating and sharing videos to celebrate this important relationship.
~ Mrs. Tanya Booker & Mr. Akira Inger (Japanese Teachers)
