Tickets On Sale Now for “Who Stole the Remote?”

Throughout Term 1, our Senior Drama students worked on their annual production, this year entitled “Who Stole the Remote?” – the show is nearly ready to perform.
It is a compilation of sketches and short plays, using techniques and concepts from The Theatre of the Absurd. This genre challenges audiences to think and question accepted standards, social conventions and customary norms. It is a didactic genre that also entertains, which is the main objective of the Senior Drama class.
The production presents sketches from comedy groups ranging from Monty Python, The Sketch Show UK, Australian comedy TV, YouTube, and includes a few surprises not seen in our Drama productions before. There is also a western parody by playwright Kenneth P. Langer called “The Shootout” by arrangement with Lazy Bee Scripts.
The variety of sketches is not unlike television before streaming services, where you just had to watch what was scheduled on the TV at the time! The process of conceptualising and developing this production has been eye-opening for the students – they have no experience of entertainment before the internet, when TV ceased transmission each night, there were a number of variety programs and sketch shows available, or in fact, when TV was broadcast in black and white. They have enjoyed exploring the history of entertainment throughout the last century.
