Proposed Materials and Services Charge for 2022
17th November 2021
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Section 106A of the Education Act enables schools, in consultation with the school council/community to set, collect and recover a Material and Services Charge. Below is the written verification from the Chief Executive Officer in the form of a “Watermarked Notice”. Notice (1) for Year 7-12 students.
The Governing Council will be holding a meeting on 1st December 2021 at 6:00pm in the Port Lincoln High School Staff Room, where this charge will be discussed prior to approval being sought. The legally recoverable “standard sum” will also be discussed at this meeting and we extend an invitation to all parent/caregivers to participate.
Please RSVP your intention to attend this meeting by 4:00pm Monday 29th November. In lieu of attendance at the meeting, parents/caregivers can express their views in writing to the Chairperson of the Governing Council prior to the meeting.
Yours sincerely,
Donna Thomson, Business Manager

Re: Material and Services Charge for 2022
Dear parents and caregivers,
The Material and Services Charge is established each year in consultation with your elected parent representatives who form the Port Lincoln High School Governing Council. The Charge is legally recoverable and covers many of the costs associated with your child’s education during the school year.
The Materials and Services Charge along with Government funding provides for a comprehensive curriculum and the many programs and experiences that students achieve through their secondary education.
The charges relate to the materials which are provided for each student and their access to information technology, machinery and equipment for their studies, as well as curriculum supplies and services.
The School is in the process of renewing and growing its IT capacity for student learning and has budgeted a significant sum of money for 2022 to ensure that all students have access to state of the art devices and capabilities.
A recommended annual charge of $400.00 per enrolled Years 7-12 student for 2022 has been approved by the Department for Education, Government of South Australia. This will include a Government allocation for those who apply for and are eligible for a School Card supplement.
Information detailing how and when to make payment of the Materials and Services Charge will be published prior to the start of next year. The school provides number of payment options to help families meet these obligations and will happily assist those who wish to apply for School Card.
Kind regards,
Brian Gabb, Governing Council Chairperson
