Astrophysicist Presents to Senior Physics Classes

Professor Geraint Lewis, an astrophysicist from the University of Sydney, visited Port Lincoln High School last week to deliver a presentation about the universe to our Stage 1 and 2 Physics students.
The session covered all things physics and space, starting with important scientific figures like Newton and Einstein and how they have contributed to our understanding today. Professor Lewis emphasised that while we have made many important mind-bending discoveries that have helped shape our society – such as the relativity calculations which allow GPS units to accurately track the location of our phones – there is still a large gap in our understanding about the origins of the cosmos.
Professor Lewis was accompanied by a physicist from South Australia, who advised our students that there are many unique opportunities to pursue assorted careers in physics within our state.
