Please Consider Joining PLHS Governing Council

A happy welcome to all new and continuing Port Lincoln High School families as we begin the 2024 school year.
What an exciting year ahead for your children with school re-commencing on Monday 29th January 2024 (for Years 7 and 12 ONLY). Did you know that Port Lincoln High School first opened its doors to students just over one hundred years ago? The school boasts a proud record of service to youth, education and their aspirations and community pursuits.
Public education is founded on parent and community voice and decision-making; your Governing Council, as the elected parent and community voice, models the school’s motto of “Non Nobis Solum” (“not for ourselves alone”), by collaborating with the school in the interests of all students for their learning and life aspirations.
Parent and community involvement makes for a strong school, and provides a barometer for decision-making, growth and future development. We need and invite your interest and participation in the PLHS Governing Council. The GC is your voice and participating is one of the best ways of knowing your school and connecting the many opportunities offered to your children.
Our first meeting will follow the AGM scheduled for 6:30pm Wednesday 14th February in the school’s Specialist Building on Ruskin Road.
A time to touch base, affirm directions and priorities and welcome new members. So please come along, test the waters and meet fellow members. The attached flyer provides information about what the Governing Council does.
Want to be heard and have input but don’t have time for meetings?
The Parent Reference Group are volunteers who provide a “communication hotline” to offer feedback and opinion to the Governing Council. Hotline members can ring/text/email us and Governing Council can do the same. No meetings involved. Just 5-10 minutes of confidential and frank conversation a few times per year on the topics that matter to you. Please help us out to connect parent voice.
To express interest for Governing Council or the Parent Reference Group, please phone Rachael Boyce at the school on 8683-6000 or return the attached nomination form; to find out more, please send me a text on 0467-041-134.
Kind regards,
Brian Gabb (Port Lincoln High School Governing Council Chairperson)
