SAASTA Students Experience Hands-On Learning
Last week, eleven SAASTA students participated in a three-day block session in Adelaide to support their Year 11 VET (Vocational Education & Training) courses or Year 10 ACE (Aboriginal Career Exploration) programs.
Our Year 11 students are undertaking their chosen VET courses, including Construction, Hospitality, Community Services and Fitness. All were completing the hands-on training as compulsory units for certificate competition later in the year.
The Year 10’s completing the ACE program were exposed to a range of trade certificates, university courses and pathway guidance. Over the three days, students were involved in practical experiences such as tiling, bricklaying, nursing, welding, marketing, engineering, lab assisting, virtual reality, hair/beauty and more. Students were guided through TAFE campuses, the University of Adelaide and the University of South Australia.
Despite the week being cut short due to COVID restriction precautions, both VET and ACE students were able to gain a clearer perspective of pathways into work and further study.
